I made a mistake last month, I forgot to pay my Mastercard. The beginning of a new month is my regular reminder of my Mastercard due date so I’ll quickly find out the balance and pay my bill. I realized on the 7th of the month of my error – Horrors! I’ve shared in the past how I pay for almost anything I can with my mastercard in order to earn points and we had paid for our vacation on the bill so it was a significant bill, one you wouldn’t want to miss paying!
Today, I logged on to check out the damage, oh yes, and to schedule my upcoming bill for the beginning of next month (don’t want to learn that lesson twice). Ouch, it hurt. We have an interest rate of 19.99% so I don’t like to pay interest. I don’t have an allotment in my budget for interest payments so what am I going to do with the $70.00 charge. I quickly called the bank to ask if they’d please give me a discount on the interest as I normally pay my bill on time. She said that she acknowledged that we’ve never paid our bill late before so for one time, they would forgive this interest and would only charge me a small fee for the three or four days I was late with the payment. I cried, I was so pleased.

February has arrived. We all consider New Years as a NEW START but a new start can begin weekly, daily, monthly. February is my restart on staying within the grocery budget. I don’t often struggle with staying within our budget as I don’t enjoy spending money when I don’t make any but I am finding that I am always challenged by the grocery budget. Continue reading →
If I am to admit it, I haven’t always been diligent at watching my receipts to ensure I have paid the correct price. I knew a lady who worked at customer service at the Real Canadian Superstore and she advised me that I should always watch my receipt when shopping at RCS because the prices will often not ring at the till as they are marked on the shelf, especially when prices have just changed when a new flyer comes out. This advice encouraged me to keep a better eye on my Superstore receipt, I would return home and have a look at my receipt, often note the wrong price or they charged me for bags instead of giving me points for my cloth bags but think, is it worth my time returning to the store for a few cents, a buck or two. Years ago, I was enrolled in a Business Law class in College and the instructor stated that you should never just pay a traffic ticket, always ask for a reduction at the very least. Of all of the excellent knowledge I gained from this class, I retained this detail at the forefront of my mind for future reference.
With this advice recent in my mind, I was able to join a loved one in her local town courthouse to request a reduction on her $150.00 ticket. We went in on the scheduled date, spoke to the Crown Prosecutor requesting a reduction and he scribbled on our ticket, Continue reading →
WOW! I was doing a little consumer research recently and came upon a Government of Canada website and I was shocked about the information I found… I knew I wanted to share it with my loyal blog readers!
If you haven’t already. Order your Royale Coupons from www.gocoupons.ca. Wal-mart has $4.47 for 12 double rolls of toilet paper or 6 rolls of papertowel which is a fantastic price and take a $1.00 or .75 off it is even better! If you order the coupons today you should receive them early next week so you won’t miss out on this deal. Unfortunately, you can order only one coupon at a time so you may have to order a few times if you want a few coupons!
I’ve been waiting for a good price to redeem my coupons! I like this price.
I recently was sharing with you about one of mine and my children’s favourite quick, filling breakfast of oatmeal and yogurt. After blogging about it, I decided to email Roger’s to request coupons for my favourite oatmeal. I was so pleased and excited to receive a positive response from them. Within a week, I received three .50 off coupons for my favourite oatmeal as well as some recipes and other promotional information. One of the recipes I was sent was for Lemon Blueberry Streusel Muffins. Anything Lemon sounds good to me, so I thought I would share the recipe with you too. Hank’s Raisin Oatmeal Cookies recipe is also at the bottom of the page. Enjoy.
